UCLA Paying Norm Chow To Coach Utah This Season
Utah offensive coordinator Norm Chow will be receiving $775,000 for his work this season, though $500,000 of it may be coming from an unlikely source.
That money is the amount the UCLA Bruins will be forced to pay their former offensive coordinator due to the unusual terms of their January parting. The two sides negotiated that heavy buyout price in order to get Chow to officially resign after he was unceremoniously fired by the university. If an agreement had not been reached, the pair would have found themselves in a precarious situation that would require the 65-year old to be reassigned to the staff.
Interestingly, that agreed upon income still makes Chow the highest paid assistant at UCLA. Both Bruins’ defensive coordinator Joe Tresey and offensive coordinator Mike Johnson earn a $250,000 base salary.
Fortunately, the two freshly-minted conference rivals will get an opportunity to hash things out on November 12th, when UCLA travels to Utah to square off against their old coach.
