Caleb King Supplemental Draft Notes

King is a good looking athlete with the potential to be a productive running back. He is quick through the hole while still showing enough patience to let his blocks develop. King’s ability to press the hole insures that he rarely misses the open lane. His lateral quickness and balanced running style allows him to make defenders miss. This also helps him avoid loosing yards in the backfield. King does a nice job running behind his pads exposing as little of his body as possible. This allows him to break tackles and end runs going forward.

The biggest issue facing King is his off the field issues but he also needs to worry about his limited playing time. King was never the full time running back at Georgia and his season high carries is 114. Last season, King missed 4 games and only carried the football 80 times. The NFL likes potential but they also factor in on the field production and durability.

While King possess good potential he has some areas of concern. He only has 1 speed and lacks the 2nd gear to be a real home run threat. While watching him play, he didn’t appear to be very explosive as he moved down the field. King will be a liability in the passing game both as a blocker and receiver. He is a willing blocker but routinely lunges at the legs of the rusher often missing the block. King doesn’t do a good job locating the football and using his hands to pluck the ball. His limited abilities in the passing game will impact his draft stock.

Ultimately, I feel that King will not be selected in the Supplemental Draft but has a good shot at making a team as a free agent signee.
