Via tweet from SI.com’s Jon Paul Morosi, we learn that Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with lower back inflammation.
Phillies Place Placido Polanco On Disabled List
Polanco has been bothered by this since before the All-Star break; he missed the last six games before the break and was unable to play in the All-Star Game despite being elected to the starting lineup by fans.
Since Polanco has not played since July 4, presumably the Phillies will make this DL move retroactive to July 5, which would make Polanco eligible to return in just five more days. No corresponding roster move has yet been announced by the Phillies. Wilson Valdez and Michael Martinez played third base in Polanco's absence before the break.
The 35-year-old Polanco is having a somewhat down year this season, hitting .274/.331/.346 with just four home runs in 321 at-bats. His .676 OPS is his lowest since 1999.
