Blake Wheeler Signs Two-Year Contract With Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets announced on Monday that they have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with forward Blake Wheeler. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Wheeler, 24, appeared in 81 games with the Boston Bruins and Atlanta Thrashers during the 2010-11 season, scoring 18 goals, all at even strength, with 26 assists for 44 points to go along with 46 penalty minutes and +10 plus/minus differential. Wheeler was traded along with defenseman Mark Stuart to the Thrashers as part of a February 28, 2011 trade that sent center Rich Peverley to the Bruins.

A first round pick (5th overall) of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2004, the 6-foot-5, 205-pound Wheeler has 57 goals and 70 assists for 127 points with 145 penalty minutes and a +42 plus/minus differential in 244 career NHL games with the Bruins (2008-10) and Thrashers (2010).

In addition to Wheeler, the Jets also announced the signings of restricted free agents Ben Maxwell, Riley Holzapfel, Spencer Machacek, Kenndal McArdle, Brett Festerling and Arturs Kulda.
