Phillies Pitcher Roy Halladay Leaves Game Early, Snaps Streak

Monday night Philadelphia Phillies ace Roy Halladay accomplished something unheard of since July 12th, 2007, though he and his teammates likely wished he hadn't.

Breaking an incredible streak, Halladay failed to pitch at least full six innings for the first time in 63 games consecutive road games. "Doc" was pulled during an arduous fifth inning, as the Phillies' trailed 3-1 in the first of their three-game set against the Chicago Cubs.

With the stifling Chicago humidity pushing temperatures into the low-90's, the 34-year old All-Star appeared to be laboring for most of the night. The Cubs shot off to an early lead, jumping on Halladay for three quick runs, including an Aramis Ramirez first inning blast to deep left field.

After sweating to the point of requesting a jersey exchange, Halladay finally called it a night midway through the fifth with a runner on first base and no outs. Philadelphia would go on to lose 6-1, as Halladay picked up his fourth loss of the year. It is the first Philadelphia loss in the ace’s last eleven starts.
