Conor Casey Out 8-10 Months With Ruptured Achilles Tendon

The hopes of defending MLS Cup this season for the Colorado Rapids took a major blow this morning. The club confirmed that star striker Conor Casey has been sidelined with a ruptured Achilles tendon and will not be able to return to the field for 8-10 months.

The Denver Post first reported this news today that Casey will undergo surgery on Wednesday.

Casey suffered the injury midway through last Saturday's contest between the Rapids and the Seattle Sounders. It was a non-contact injury for Casey as he made a turn on the ball and immediately went down in pain. It was pretty visible that Casey was badly hurt. A freak-accident kind of play like that always seems to turn out the worst for athletes like Casey.

Casey is the team's leading scorer with six goals on the season and had been starting to get hot over the last few games. The team is hoping that Macoumba Kandji, Caleb Folan and Omar Cummings can step up and carry the offense without Casey.

No matter which way you look at this for the Rapids it is a major blow to a team that has already been suffering a lot of injuries this season.
