Barrett Jones
6'5, 311 pounds | Guard | Alabama
First word: Jones is a tough offensive lineman with good size and bulk. He plays hard and works to gain good positioning. His ability to go from stance to set allows him to gain initial positioning. Jones is an aware and smart player who is always in the correct position. His football IQ allows him to identify the immediate threat in pass protection.
Barrett Jones 2012 NFL Draft prospect notes
However, Jones is a limited athlete which impacts his ability to explode into the defender. He doesn’t create a great push off the line as a result of short arms and poor hand placement. A zone blocking scheme appears to be the ideal spot for Jones as he can gain position and seal.
Overall, it looks like Jones will be fighting for a later round grade. He doesn’t have the ability to play tackle which impacts his upside and versatility.
Bold statement: Barrett Jones is a guard only prospect and a mid round guy at best
