VIDEO: Stephen Drew Exits With Nasty Injury

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen Drew broke his ankle in disturbing fashion as he tried to score during the D'Backs' game against the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday. Drew is at second. Chris Young doubles, and Ryan Braun narrowly misses the catch in left field, which forces Drew to hold at second and then try to scramble around to the plate, where Jonathan Lucroy waits for him.

↵You might watch the first minute of the video of his injury and think, ‘What’s the big deal? That looks like a pretty standard ankle injury,’ but be warned: the last few seconds are disturbing, as it becomes clear that Drew bent his ankle about 90 degrees and then used his hand to pop it back into place.

↵

↵Unsurprisingly, according to the Diamondbacks’ Twitter feed, Drew is likely headed for surgery, and given the calendar, it doesn’t seem likely that we’ll see him on the field again this season.
