The Detroit Red Wings have signed goalie Ty Conklin to a one-year deal worth $750,000, the Detroit News reports.
Red Wings Sign Goalie Ty Conklin To One-Year Contract
The move comes on the heels of the retirement of goalie Chris Osgood. Conklin will now step into Osgood's shoes as the backup to Jimmy Howard.
Despite spending the last two seasons with the St. Louis Blues, Conklin is very familiar with the Red Wings, having played for them in 2008-09, when he was Osgood's backup. The Red Wings let him depart after that, as Howard began emerged as the team's starter.
“Just finding the rink, you worry about that coming to a new city,” said Conklin, who agreed to a one-year contract worth $750,000 Wednesday to back up Jimmy Howard. “I won’t have that problem here. A lot of familiar faces, great team, it’s exciting to be back.”
Conklin, 35, has also played for the Oilers, Sabres, Blue Jackets and Penguins.
In 2010-11, Conklin played in 25 games for the Blues, allowing 69 goals for a GAA of 3.22. He had a save percentage of .881. He went 25-11-2 for the Red Wings in 2008-09.
