NFL Free Agency: Todd Heap Will Be Released By Baltimore Ravens

We have our first surprise of the 2011 NFL free agency period. The Baltimore Ravens, according to Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun, have informed TE Todd Heap that he will be released. This move will save the Ravens, who were a little over $5 million under the salary cap, approximately $4.6 million off the cap.

So the move will save the Ravens, who have already reportedly informed RB Willie McGahee and NT Kelly Gregg of their releases, some money but they're losing a talented player.

Heap entered the NFL as the Ravens first round pick in 2001. He's gone on to become one of the most productive tight ends (and a guy who beat up on my Chiefs in the divisional round of the playoffs last year).

Some lucky team will sign Heap this offseason and I’d predict they won’t regret it. Solid, proven tight ends aren’t incredibly easy to come by and he can help any roster. He’ll find a home quickly.

Check out Baltimore Beatdown to see what Ravens fans are saying about these surprising moves.
