Alonzo Mourning Cited For Leaving Scene Of Car Crash

Former Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning will be cited by police for leaving the scene of a traffic crash in Miami Beach last week according to reports.

Mourning and his wife were heading home early July 17 when they came upon a wreck that had just occurred. Police say Mourning was unable to avoid hitting a car but then left the scene. He did, however, check on the two drivers who were standing by the side of the road beforehand, according to The Miami Herald.

The Florida Highway Patrol issued a report Monday saying Mourning is being issued a notice to appear in court for the second-degree misdemeanor of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

Mourning returned about 40 minutes later at the request of the police. Mourning has called police from his home following the crash.

One of the drivers has filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages from Mourning.
