Former Carolina Panther Jeff King reached an agreement Tuesday night with the Arizona Cardinals, according to reports. He will fill the role of a dependable blocking tight end that the Cardinals lacked.
Jeff King, Arizona Cardinals Reach Agreement, According To Report
A five year veteran out of Virginia Tech, King was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth round of the 2006 draft. After catching just one pass his rookie year, King surprised many by breaking-out for 46 catches, 406 yards, and two touchdowns in his second NFL season. Since then the 28-year-old has played in every game for the Panthers, becoming renown for his remarkable strength and stout blocking ability.
King adds a veteran presence to the crop of Cardinals tight ends under contract, joining second-year prospect Jim Dray and expected rookie signing Rob Housler. Up to this point, Arizona has had apparent interest in free agent tight end -- and former Arizona State alum -- Todd Heap; however this newest development could curtail that option.
