Sidney Moncrief May Rejoin Milwaukee Bucks As Assistant

The Milwaukee Bucks are apparently serious in their efforts to bring back former star Sidney Moncrief as an assistant to head coach Scott Skiles, the AP reports.

Bucks coach Scott Skiles has an opening on his staff after Kelvin Sampson left to join Kevin McHale as an assistant with the Houston Rockets.

Moncrief played 10 of his 11 NBA seasons in Milwaukee, becoming a leader of the Bucks’ competitive teams in the 1980s. He was a two-time defensive player of the year.

Moncrief's coaching experience includes a season at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock and a brief tenure as head coach of the D-League Fort Worth Flyers. He has also been an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks and a shooting coach for the Golden State Warriors. He has also occasionally served as a television commentator for Bucs games.

In his new role, Moncrief will focus on improving the Bucks’ defense, which makes sense, given his excellent defensive reputation as a player.

The Bucks are trying to regroup after a 35-47 season in 2010-11.
