Timothy Peters Wins Indianapolis Truck Series AAA Insurance 200

Proving that track positions means virtually nothing on short tracks, Timothy Peters chipped away from a 16th starting spot to win Friday night’s AAA 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway Park.

Peters wasn’t sure what happened when he lost control of his truck on lap 91. He later learned that he had a tire problem. The next time his truck was spinning, it was doing burnouts.

The race was threatened by sporadic showers but all 200 laps were completed, bookended by a 107-lap fuel-mileage run to the finish. Peters passed Chris Buecher for the lead on lap 194 and never looked back, winning his third career race and first of 2011.

“People want to win here because it’s close to the Brickyard,” Peters said. “It means something.”

The championship battle closed up following the conclusion of Friday’s race as both Johnny Sauter and Austin Dillon encountered problems in the second half.

Sauter cut a tired and was forced to make several green flag pit stops before finishing 23rd. Dillon was forced hard into the wall by Todd Bodine and ended up finishing ninth. Sauter now leads Dillon by just four points with eight drivers all separated by 50 points.

The complete finishing order can be found after the jump!
