The Indianapolis Colts have re-signed free agent running back Joseph Addai, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports.
Joseph Addai, Indianapolis Colts Agree On New Contract
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
With the club getting quarterback Peyton Manning under contract, they were expected to move quickly to keep some of his supporting cast. Though Addai has not topped 1,000 yards rushing since his Pro Bowl season of 2007, re-signing the former first-round pick out of LSU was believed to be high on their list of offseason priorities.
In 66 career games, Addai has 4,020 yards and 38 touchdowns on the ground, adding 176 receptions for 1,355 yards and nine touchdowns as a reliable check-down option for Manning. Addai will be expected to be the feature back, with the Colts spelling him with 2009 first-round pick Donald Brown and 2011 fourth-rounder Delone Carter.
Now that Manning and Addai's contracts have been dealt with, the Colts can turn their attention towards re-signing offensive lineman Charlie Johnson, as well as addressing the contracts of wide receiver Reggie Wayne and defensive end Robert Mathis, two Pro Bowlers who are looking for big paydays and entering the final year of their contract.
