Shaun White Keeps Winning, Takes X Games Skateboard Vert Gold Medal

There are now X Games competitors younger than the X Games, but the action sports world is still ruled by Shaun White, a guy who has seemingly been around forever. And White, the 24-year-old ruler of snowboard and skateboard halfpipes, threw down another performance for posterity in Saturday night’s Skateboard Vert competition.

You can not know the second thing about skateboarding — I don’t, despite playing a lot of Tony Hawk growing up — and still appreciate something as fluid and daring as White’s run. Hawk’s animated commentary certainly adds to the moment.

White won gold in Skateboard Vert, giving him five Summer X Games medals and 20 total X Games medals (he holds the record for Winter X Games medals) to go with his two Olympic golds. And White’s career isn’t nearly over yet.

But just wait for the kid who comes along and makes White feel old and unaccomplished.
