Minnesota Vikings Sign First Round Draft Pick Christian Ponder

After a couple of weeks dominated by the well-known NFL insiders, Christian Ponder has scooped all of them by announcing himself via twitter that he has signed with the Minnesota Vikings. The 12th overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft is seen as a long-term solution at quarterback for the Vikings, and his supposedly pro-ready game caused the Vikings to draft him in the top half of the first round.

Of course, Ponder probably won't be the starter from the get go. The Vikings recently completed a trade with the Washington Redskins for veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb, who figures to be the team's starting quarterback to begin the 2011 season. The Vikings, like a couple of other teams, were reluctant to throw a rookie quarterback into the fire without a full minicamp and training camp schedule.
