Just in case you thought that Pete Carroll might show a little favoritism for his former players, think again. Seattle Seahawks and former USC linebacker Lofa Tatupu has been released from the Seahawks and will become a free agent. Tatupu's release will save Seattle over $4 million in salary cap room.
Seattle Seahawks Release Linebacker Lofa Tatupu
Tatupu was a Pro Bowler in his first three years with the Seahawks, but has not been nearly as effective over the last three seasons. Because of his decline in play and his high salary, the Seahawks reportedly asked Tatupu to take a pay cut. Tatupu declined to take a pay cut and subsequently requested to be traded or released. As of Sunday, he has been granted his wish.
Despite the massive flurry of free agent dealings in the NFL over the last week, there are still a number of teams looking for inside linebacker help that could use Tatupu’s services.
