Tigers’ Justin Verlander No-Hitter: Intact Through Seven Innings

The Detroit Tigers' Justin Verlander has already thrown a no-hitter this season, on May 7 against the Blue Jays.

Three more times before today, he took a no-hitter through at least five innings, and Sunday afternoon in Detroit, he has another no-hitter intact through seven innings against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who had a no-hitter of their own thrown by Ervin Santana just last Thursday in Cleveland against the Indians.

Through six innings, the only baserunners allowed by Verlander have been a pair of walks to Bobby Abreu, one in the fourth inning and another in the seventh. Verlander has gone to a three-ball count only five times.

Torii Hunter struck out swinging to lead off the seventh inning against Verlander; it was his seventh strikeout.

After Abreu walked, Vernon Wells hit a fly ball to Andy Dirks in deep right field. Dirks came into the game in the seventh replacing Magglio Ordonez for defense; Ordonez hit a two-run homer in the third inning for the only runs so far in the game.

Alberto Callaspo flew out to Brennan Boesch to end the inning; the game moves along to the eighth. Stay with this StoryStream for further updates.
