Chris Spencer To Bears In Free Agency Ends Olin Kreutz Era

Seventh-year center Chris Spencer, who's played his entire career for the Seattle Seahawks, will sign on with the Chicago Bears. This would force out Olin Kreutz, a six-time Pro Bowler who's held the position since the 1990s and hasn't missed a game since 2002, when he missed, well, a game. Kreutz had seen the news coming as early as Saturday.

Bears players are pumped. No, they're not. Chris Harris, for one, reports his teammates are going to be a little displeased with the news for a while. After practice Sunday, coach Lovie Smith lamented the loss of Kreutz.

But oh right, we’re talking about Spencer. The former first round pick out of Ole Miss hasn’t been quite the rock Kreutz was, missing games due to injury in 2008 and 2009, but who is? Wait, we’re talking about Kreutz again. Let’s just say Spencer has some mighty big shoes to fill.

For more Bears, head to Windy City Gridiron and SB Nation Chicago.
