Stuttgart Defender Ermin Bicakcic Tears MCL; Out 6-8 Weeks

VfB Stuttgart defender Ermin Bicakcic has been ruled out of the next 6-8 weeks after tearing his MCL in the club’s DFB Pokal first round match against SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The Bosnian, 21, was diagnosed after the match with a partially torn ligament. When the MRI was completed on Saturday, it was shown that the Medial Collateral Ligament was completely torn.

Bicakcic was injured in a challenge when Wehen Wiesbaden forward Marco Sailer fell on his knee. The defender tried to carry on but he was unable to continue and was substituted at the half hour mark. In the opening minutes of the match, Bicakcic jumped on a loose ball and poked it into the net giving his club the 1-0 lead. Stuttgart would go on to win the match 2-1.

The injury is a blow to Stuttgart’s already thin defense with injuries already to Georg Niedermeier and Shinji Okazaki and the sell of Christian Träsch to Wolfsburg.
