First word: Linebackers are asked to make plays and be around the football. In order to accomplish this a linebacker needs good instincts and tenacity. It also doesn't hurt to have good speed and quickness. Shayne Skov has the necessary tools to make an impact in the NFL.
Shayne Skov 2012 NFL Draft prospect notes
Skov has a great motor and works to find the football and make a play. His instincts helps him anticipate and recognize the play. This allows him to use his athletic ability and make an impact on the game. Skov’s the type of player that just knows where the ball is and works to get in position. He has a nice closing burst that permits him to close on the ball carrier and create a pop.
However, he needs to improve his pass coverage ability. He struggles to identify the routes developing around him and doesn’t quickly close on the ball. Skov also needs to do a better job using his hands to stack and shed while making plays away from his frame.
Overall, Skov has all the necessary skills to be an NFL linebacker. As the year progresses I would not be surprised to see him gain a lot of draft attention.
Bold statement: Skov will have a breakout season and be among the top linebacker prospects for 2012
