Albert Pujols was available to pinch-hit, but never saw game action on Tuesday night as the St. Louis Cardinals rolled to an 8-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Volquez would last four more innings before being chased off following a three-run sixth that pushed the score to 8-1. The righthander left the game with an unremarkable line of five-and-a-third innings pitched, with six earned runs off seven hits.
St. Louis’ Jamie Garcia looks to be in line to pick up the win. The lefty pitched a superb six innings, giving up just one run off two hits while striking out four.

“Whenever he gives the OK, I’ll be on the field playing,” Pujols said. “Hopefully, the test and everything goes well. Whatever the doctors say, and the trainer, then I’ll follow that. I feel right where I want to be right now. I’m pretty excited. I can’t wait to be back on the field, whatever the time is.”
