2011 NFL Preseason: Saturday Night Rookie Debuts

The NFL Preseason kicks off this weekend with a ton of games on the schedule. The NFL Network will be broadcasting the Green Bay at Cleveland game starting at 7:30pm. Many feel that the preseason is boring and a waste of time but for those of us that cover the draft it is really exciting. The preseason gives everyone the chance to get a glimpse at rookies and late drafted players that might not see regular season action. Below is a look at a few players to keep an eye ne as they make their NFL debuts.

Cam Newton- QB- Panthers- The whole football watching world will be interested to see Cam Newton make his debut. The super athletic quarterback needs a lot of work but in the right system could be effective. I am going to be interested to see how he is utilized.

Marcell Dareus- DL- Bills- Dareus quickly moved up draft boards and ended up landing in Buffalo. He has been pegged as one of the more NFL ready players and Saturday he gets his chance. I will be interested to see if he is able to be as disruptive in the NFL as he was in college.

Check out some other rookies after the jump

Gabe Carimi- OT- Bears- Chicago has one of the worst offensive lines last season and their only major addition was Carimi. He will be facing a lot of pressure to step in and contribute right away. The biggest thing I will be looking for is to see whether or not he could possibly make a move to the left side.

Anthony Castonzo- OT- Colts- Peyton Manning is coming off recent neck surgery and will not play in this game. However, all eyes will be on rookie tackle Anthony Castonzo because he will be asked to protect Manning blindside. Talk about pressure, the young tackle is partially responsible for the heath of Peyton Manning.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
