Fulham and Aston Villa shared a point apiece after a disappointing 0-0 draw. The game became more open in the second half as Fulham began to put pressure on the Aston Villa defence, but neither Shay Given or Mark Schwarzer would be beaten. I mentioned that Fulham needed to get Damien Duff involved more, and Fulham made me look good by getting him on the ball early in the second half. His cross was flicked on by Andy Johnson, but Bobby Zamora’s shot was superbly saved by Shay Given from point-blank range. Soon, Clint Dempsey’s cutting into the middle paid dividends, but Andy Johnson just couldn’t get onto his through ball.

Aston Villa began to play on the counter attack but surprisingly brought off Charles N’Zogbia for Marc Albrighton. Maybe he thought Albrighton would track back more and cover John Arne Riise, but taking off the ineffectual Agbonlahor may have been a more prudent choice. Martin Jol brought off Bobby Zamora for his almost exact replica, Moussa Dembele, but he didn’t make a difference.
Fulham will be disappointed by the draw, but on another day would’ve won. If they continue to play like that at home, they’ll finish in the top half. A good point for Aston Villa, but some fans must be worried about the lack of creativity in the side.
