It didn't even take two minutes for Manchester United to first threaten the West Brom goal. Ashley Young got the first real touch of his United career in and his attempted cross was deflected out for a corner. The corner was hit right in front of the goal where Ben Foster just waved at it. The ball fell right in front of the goal and would have certainly resulted in a goal for the Red Devils if anyone could have gotten a foot to it. Instead it bounced twice before West Brom were able to boot it away.

United came right back though and once again it was through Young. The new United signing drew a foul on the left, just yards from the end line. He took the free kick and it was perfectly hit, but Danny Welbeck missed the header and it went across. The youngster should have done better and with Foster lost, all it would have taken is a simple nod to put United in front.
