Rogers Cup WTA Toronto Final: Serena Williams Takes First Set 6-4 Over Sam Stosur

In a tightly contested final between the two best servers in the women’s game, it is Serena Williams who struck first blood against No. 10 seed Samantha Stosur.

After the two traded holds for the first eight games of the match, Serena was able to crack the Stosur kick serve in the ninth game of the first set, breaking for 5-4.

Serena held comfortably one game later with a forehand winner that somehow found the line on set point.

Serena broke serve to start the second set as well, toughing out a long return game and again finishing the game with a forehand winner. This one is looking like it could be over not too long from now.

Were she to win this match, the Premier 5-level title would be the biggest of Serena’s comeback thus far.
