According to a report from the Associated Press, the United States Olympic Committee has notified all cities who indicated interest in hosting the Olympic games that they will not be submitting a bid for the 2020 Olympic Games. Countries have until September 10 to submit a list of cities in their country that will be bidding for the summer games. Chicago, New York, and Dallas were said to be interested in bidding for the games.

The United States is not planning on bidding for the 2020 Olympics, according to an AP report. A row between the USOC and IOC over revenue sharing could be the root cause of the USOC’s decision.

The United States has put in failed bids for the last two Summer Olympics that went up for vote. New York lost the 2012 Olympics, while Chicago lost the 2016 Olympics. The United States has not hosted the Summer Olympics since 1996, when the games were hosted in Atlanta.
There’s probably more than a simple lack of interest keeping the United States out of the bidding, if the USOC does, in fact, decline to bid. The USOC has been under pressure from the International Olympic Committee to take a smaller share of sponsorship and television revenue since 2006. That issue is believed to have significantly undermined the 2012 and 2016 bids, and would presumably have a negative effect on a hypothetical 2020 bid.
