Welcome back to our Glaring Team Needs series! Is anyone else ready for the season to start? There are still two preseason games left and first cuts are coming on 8/30. A lot needs to happen before the start of the season, but it just can’t get here fast enough. Lets try to satisfy some of that appetite by taking a look at the Jets, Browns, and Cowboys and what they might be looking for in the 2012 Draft.
Glaring NFL Team Needs - 8/25/11
- Biggest Need: OLB The Jets are very creative when using their 3-4 defense to create pressure, but their two pass rushers are double digit season veterans and very little has been invested in the depth behind them. They recently acquired
, but that hardly inspires confidence in the future of the position.
, OLB/DE North Carolina. DPM is another talented pass rusher out of UNC and the most likely to make the conversion to 3-4 OLB. He is extremely quick off the line and has the potential to be the best pass rusher in the class.
2. Cleveland Browns - Biggest Need: DE The Browns are in the beginning of a defensive transition from a 3-4 to a 4-3 and has truly diminished their pass rushing talent. Jayme Mitchell was brought over from the Vikings and has potential, but a history of injuries. Jabaal Sheard was a great pick in the 2nd round, but the cupboard is bare behind them. 2012 Draft Pick: Devin Taylor, DE South Carolina A big and powerful end that has all the athleticism, but needs mroe work on his technique.
3. Dallas Cowboys - Biggest Need: OG Spending two late round picks in 2011 on interior linemen might help with depth, but starting talent is needed with the aging Kyle Kosier and Andre Gurode manning starting positions. I was surprised by the release of Leonard Davis as it seems to have left them even weaker at a weak position. 2012 Draft Pick: Kelechi Osemele, OG/OT Iowa State Osemele is a big bodied defender who plays left tackle at Iowa State, but projects to the inside in the NFL
