It is early to say that the 2012 NFL Draft class may be weak or strong but my early evaluations are not promising. Right now, Andrew Luck is the top NFL prospect and many feel that he is the best to come along in years. His presence makes the top pick very attractive. However, outside of Luck there isn't much sure fire prospects.
2012 NFL Draft Lacking Multiple Elite Talents
Quinton Coples is consistently rated as the #2 prospect and has a ton of potential. However, he needs to show more consistency in order to solidify his draft stock. The next best prospects include a few underclassmen quarterbacks in Matt Barkley and Landry Jones. Both are receiving attention but again need to show this season that they are worthy of a 1st round selection.
Many analysts will mention that the offensive tackle position has top level talent. However, both Jonathan Martin and Matt Kalil have their weaknesses and neither look to be on the same level as a Jake Long or Joe Thomas. The season hasn't even started and I expect many players to take steps forward but as it stands now the 2012 draft class isn't full of guaranteed stars.
Keep an eye out for my 1st 2012 NFL Mock Draft debuting today around 1pm eastern time.
