DeVier Posey NFL Draft prospect notes

DeVier Posey
6'2, 213 pounds | Wide receiver | Ohio State

First word:
Of the Ohio State players suspended for the first five games of the season, none will suffer more as a prospect than Posey. As a junior, Posey was quarterback Terrelle Pryor's top big-play target. He finished the season with 53 receptions for 848 yards and 7 touchdowns. If Ohio State's quarterback play suffers due to inexperience, Posey will have a hard time making plays over the top.

Posey is by no means a great NFL Draft prospect, but he's good in most areas. He profiles as a good No. 2 wide receiver at the next level.

Games viewed: (all 2010) Miami, Wisconsin, Penn State, Iowa, Michigan, Arkansas

Bold statement: Because he's not a physical specimen and has inconsistent hands, Posey probably won't get taken in the 50 picks in the draft.

Notes:
• Posey excels on comeback routes and shallow crossing patterns. His specialty, though, is running vertical routes, despite not having elite speed.
• He’s a little inconsistent in and out of his breaks and needs to learn how fire quicker on his cuts.
• Gets off the line smoothly. Posey has quick feet and is strong enough to beat the jam.
• Knows how to get himself open with body control and positioning.
• Has displayed good hands at times catching the ball away from his frame. Still, Posey is a wide receiver who too frequently drop easy passes (see the Iowa game last season when he dropped a wide open touchdown pass).
• Sees the ball in nicely over his shoulder on cervical passes.
• Has a game that is similar to that of

Steve Smith

of the New York Giants. Posey has a lot of nice pieces in his game, but he’s not a top-level prospect in any area.
• Routinely bailed out Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor by making difficult catches away from his body.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.

It’s a high-potential pick for a Detroit defense that needs a solid pass rusher.
