MtD Fantasy Football League 1 Draft Results

The draft for the second MtD fantasy football league on Yahoo! Sports took place last evening. Unfortunately, due to reasons involving guns, fighting and several tacos, I was unable to attend. Because of that, Danny K’s Teamy Team suffered.

But first, some info on who went where. If you recall, the MtD leagues this year are standard scoring and not PPR. The first pick, as expected, was Arian Foster of the Houston Texans. Upon hearing the news he was picked by MtD staffer seton hall and steelers, Foster's hamstring flared up. If the injury persists, the 10th round pick of Ben Tate by Stupid Flanders could turn out to be a steal. That could counteract Flanders' risky first-round pick of Chris Johnson, should the Titans running back continues to hold out.

Much of the early part of the first round went as expected, though Rashard Mendenhall being picked second was a bit of a surprise. The first six picks were Foster, Mendenhall, Adrian Peterson, Ray Rice, Johnson and my pick of Jamaal Charles. I actually had Charles as the third-best running back hoping he'll get a few more rushing touchdowns this season.

How, then, did my team suffer?

Advice on why you should try to attend your fantasy draft live: The only quarterback on Danny K's Teamy Team is Ryan Fitzpatrick. The best options available is either whoever wins the Washington Redskins quarterback competition or Tarvaris Jackson of the Seahawks.

In a 16-team league, the options are obviously thin and your waiver claim number is almost as important as who you play that week.

One thing that was surprising about the draft results is a couple of running backs who dropped. Considering this isn't a PPR league, I thought Felix Jones (pick 33) and LeGarrette Blount (pick 31) would go higher.

Biggest steal: Tim Hightower, fourth round, 56th overall - Tim Tebow's Tears

- Hightower has looked excellent throughout the preseason. Despite being coached by Mike Shanahan, who likes to cycle running backs, Hightower looks like he could go for more than 1,000 yards this season.

Biggest reach: Defenses and kickers going early

- In a 16-round draft, it was surprising to see that a defense (Green Bay) was taken in the eighth round. The first kicker (Mason Crosby) was picked in the 11th round. My pre-draft strategy was pass on every single defense and kicker, adding them all to my excluded players list (where they were joined by Peyton Manning – that's right).

League 2 drafts tonight. I’ll check back in with some thoughts after the draft.
