Derek Jeter has luckily avoided a serious injury, but he still looks set to miss a series against the Boston Red Sox. He will miss Monday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles and likely the entire Red Sox series with a badly bruised knee, but it could have been much worse.

The New York Yankees shortstop fouled a ball off of his knee in the first game of a doubleheader against the O's on Sunday, after which he left the game. Jeter put ice on his knee and hoped to get ready for the second game of the doubleheader that the Yankees and Orioles were playing Sunday night, but noticed his knee swelling up considerably.

Fearing the worst, the club had X-rays done on Jeter’s knee, but they came up negative. Still, it’s a big blow to the Yankees to have to play the Red Sox - who they trail by two games in the AL East - without the red-hot Jeter.
