Red Flag Alert: Michael Floyd

The Red Flag Alert will focus on NFL prospects that have situations that might raise concerns. These could be injury issues, character problems, runs in with the law, or anything that might impact their future. One thing to keep in mind with the Red Flag Alert is that some of the accusations will be just rumors but the majority of our reports will come from reliable sources. Don’t expect to see a report about a rumor about a former college roommate or something to that affect. However, the fact remains that every rumor or issue could impact a players draft stock.

Michael Floyd is a star wide receiver at Notre Dame and a highly touted NFL draft prospect. Floyd has a combination of good size and quickness. He has the ability to make plays down the field but also have an impact with the underneath routes. Floyd is being considered a first-round prospect.

A red flag has been raised on Floyd due to a March citation for drunken driving. It has been reported that this is his third run in with the law for an alcohol related issue. Since Rodger Goodell has taken over as commissioner, the NFL has taken a hard-line stance on off the field issues. DUI and alcohol related offenses could bring as many as a four game suspension. NFL teams might shy away from selecting a player that has issues with alcohol and the law. Nobody wants a player on their team that is at a high risk of being suspended.

Floyd will need to work hard to convince teams that his problems are in the past. However, there is no doubt that his past issues will leave a red flag in his report.
