Sporting Kansas City played with urgency in the first half and lead Real Salt Lake 2-0 at halftime. Goals from Roger Espinoza and Teal Bunbury are the difference. Sporting must be thrilled that their gameplan is working perfectly. After controlling possession for most of the half, KC peppered Nick Rimando with shots until Espinoza made a run into the box and shot just past an outstretched Rimando in the 26th minute. It is Espinoza's first MLS goal of the season.

The second goal came in the 34th minute off an impressive combination play. Matt Besler put a long throw into the box, Kei Kamara headed it towards goal, and Rimando made a save on it, only for the rebound to go straight to Bunbury. He was unmarked and headed it in. It's Bunbury's second goal in as many games. For RSL, the only decent chance in the half came from Alvaro Saborio, who had a one-on-one chance and blasted it well above the goal.
