Stephen Strasburg Return Date To Nationals Set For September 6, Team Confirms

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson confirmed Tuesday that pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg will make his return to the major leagues on Tuesday, September 6 in Nationals Park.

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson confirmed Tuesday that pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg will make his return to the major leagues on Tuesday, September 6 in Nationals Park.

The Nationals will play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second game of a four-game series that day.

September 6th will be nearly 12 months to the day since Strasburg underwent Tommy John surgery. Strasburg is slightly ahead of schedule in terms of recovery time, which is often considered 12-18 months.

Strasburg has been largely impressive in his rehab starts, save for one really bad performance. He hurled five scoreless innings in his most recent rehab start for AAA-Syracuse. His final rehab start on Thursday will be at AA-Harrisburg.

Strasburg will replace Jordan Zimmermann in the rotation. Zimmermann is himself recovering from Tommy John surgery and has reached his innings-allowed limit.
