2012 NFL Draft Prospects to Watch: UNLV vs. Wisconsin

Thursday marks the kickoff of the College Football season. There are several intriguing games but ESPN has decided to air UNLV vs. Wisconsin. The game kicks off at 8:00pm eastern time and can be seen on ESPN, ESPN3, and ESPN 3D.

This game features several high profile NFL prospects with Wisconsin featuring the vast majority. Many feel that Wisconsin has enough talent to make a run at the Big 10 and National Championships. My top rated Wisconsin prospect is Kevin Zeitler (#70) a guard with good power and technique. Zeitler looks like more of a 2nd round player but has the talent to be a long range NFL starter. Zeitler is joined by two other offensive line prospects Peter Konz (#66) and Ricky Wagner (#58). Konz is fighting for the top rated center slot and has some tough competition. Wagner is more of a potential type player who needs to work on improving his technique. He is still an underclassman and could return to Wisconsin for additional seasons.

Those 3 offensive lineman open up running lanes for the talented backfield of Montee Ball (#28) and James White (#20). Both players have good quickness and the ability to break tackles. White is only a Sophomore and will not be eligible for the 2012 draft. However, Ball is eligible and finds his stock on the rise. He is an underrated player and didn't receive the kind of attention he deserved. The lack of attention came from the fact that Ball shared the workload with White and John Clay. Ball has the potential to push the other top running backs and possibly be a day two selection.

Another underrated Wisconsin prospect is wide receiver Nick Toon (#1). Toon is a bigger target with deceptive speed but has struggled staying healthy. I don't see Toon being selected prior to the 3rd round but that doesn't mean he doesn't have potential.

UNLV is coming off a rough 2-11 season and they don't have many legit NFL prospects. However, one player to keep an eye on is defensive back Will Chandler (#1). Chandler had 5 interceptions two of which were returned for touchdowns. He is a quick and athletic player with some potential.

Prospect Notes: Kevin Zeitler, Peter Konz, Ricky Wagner

This player should be a plug-and-play replacement for Mekhi Becton right off the bat.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
