NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series heads to Chicagoland Speedway this weekend to compete in the Fast Five 225. As we continue on the downhill slope of the season, the truck drivers are looking to stir things up in the Windy City.
NASCAR - Camping World Truck Series - Fast Five 225 Preview

Following the Atlanta 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the points were mixed up once again. Not only has there been six different points leaders this season, the current leader didn’t even qualify for the second race of the season. James Buescher, on a 13-week string of Top-10 finishes, overtook Johnny Sauter for first position heading into Chicago. But Sauter is dominant at 1.5-mile tracks; two of his three wins came at one. Compound that with the two Top-5 finishing positions he had in the past two Chicagoland races, and Sauter may rebound gracefully this weekend. Though every race is important to the drivers, the Fast Five 225 carries special significance for Ron Hornaday, Jr. In the midst of rumors that Kevin Harvick Incorporated will dissolve after this season, his win at Atlanta was huge. Now that the story has been confirmed, solidifying his dominance in this series is critical.
Laps: 150
Miles: 225
Total purse: $608,503 (2010 figures)
Defending Polesitter: Todd Bodine (173.840 m.p.h.)
Defending Champion: Kyle Busch
Hornaday is no stranger to breaking NCWTS records; he leads in number of championships won. Next on his to-do list is capture his 50th NCWTS win. With two wins under his belt this season and the last four NCWTS race wins to KHI’s name, look for Hornaday to contend for win number 50 this Friday.
But the Truck regulars will once again have their hands full with Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick. Busch has won this race the past two years, but Harvick has been unstoppable lately. The No. 2 Bad Boy Buggies Chevy won every race in the month of August and Harvick is riding the momentum of Saturday’s Sprint Cup Series win at Richmond. The owner’s points battle is sure to heat up at Chicagoland.
Buescher is currently your NCWTS points leader. Sauter, Timothy Peters, Austin Dillon, and Hornaday round out your Top 5.
Catch the Fast Five 225 this Friday night at 8:00PM ET on Speed.
