Prince Fielder Admits He’s Probably Leaving Milwaukee

Prince Fielder realizing he's probably playing his final games for the Brewers isn't shocking; the fact that he's so candid in his admission, though, is.

“I’m signed for this year, but being real about it, it is probably the last year,” he told TBS announcer Brian Anderson, who’s also the Brewers’ play-by-play man, for an interview to be televised Saturday. The comments were revealed in a Sports Illustrated article Wednesday night.

Fielder is already feeling nostalgic about playing with Ryan Braun. “It’s been great, unfortunately, this is probably the last year of the one-two punch... But I think it’s been good, [five] years, him and me. Hopefully, we can go out with a blast.”

The Brewers currently hold a 5-1/2 game lead over the Cardinals in the NL Central. It’d be a complete shock if the Cards make up that much ground with so few games remaining, but still, Fielder’s comments are a potential distraction the Brewers don’t need at this point in the season.

(Unless they’re not, of course. It’s easy for media types to get excited about comments like this, but it’s likely Fielder isn’t saying anything that every person in Milwaukee’s clubhouse hasn’t already been thinking for months. But as a public service to the fans, it’d be nice if Fielder had painted a prettier picture, allowing everyone to live in the moment and enjoy the stretch run without being reminded their house of cards will likely collapse come winter.)
