Cup Drivers go for back to back dominance: The Great Clips 300 Preview

Atlanta Motor Speedway is a cookie cutter Intermediate track, which has become NASCAR’s bread and butter. This week we have another handful of Cup drivers racing in the Nationwide Series instead of focusing on making the Chase for the Sprint Cup. We even have a return appearance by Brad Keselowski.

The best battle to watch this weekend will be the battle for the championship. Keep your eye on Ricky Stenhouse, Reed Sorenson, and Elliott Sadler. That’s where the real excitement will be.

45 Teams are entered this week, so two will go home. Just a handful of notes this week:

  • #7- Jamie McMurray is making a rare Nationwide start this week for JR Motorsports. McMurray has been close the last few races he has run, and looks to return to victory lane.
  • #20- Joe Gibbs signed Ryan Truex to run a few races for him before the season is out. Truex is the second Michael Waltrip driver to be cut loose due to lack of sponsorship. It turned out pretty well for Trevor Bayne.
  • #33- Kevin Harvick is back this week in his own team. He’s gonna be a favorite this weekend for sure.
  • #38- Kasey Kahne has yet to win in the Nationwide Series this year. Kahne has had some rough runs this year.

Join us at NASCAR Ranting and Raving this Saturday night for an open race thread while you tune into ESPN2 at 7pm eastern for the live running of the Great Clips 300 from Atlanta, GA! Enjoy!
