The Red Sox never seriously considered trading for Doug Fister, says WEEI's Alex Speier, but they apparently kicked the tires. Talk about the one that got away. As Tim Britton of the Providence Journal notes on Twitter:

Fister, of course, landed in Detroit. And while Boston was busy losing the rest of its lead in the AL Wild Card race, Fister was throwing eight shutout innings for the Tigers, winning his eighth game in 11 starts since the trade deadline.
