Arguably the best draft prospect to follow tonight is Pittsburgh right guard Lucas Nix. On a shaky offensive line (that is without late-round prospect Chris Jacobson), Nix has been steady but not particularly spectacular. In Pittsburgh's faster-paced offense, the 6-foot-5, 310-pound Nix is struggling to adjust. Against Notre Dame last week, Nix had three false start penalties. Im primetime tonight, he'll have to play more disciplined. When he's on, Nix is solid in both the pass and run game.
Panthers defensive end Brandon Lindsey comes into tonight's game with three sacks, but it's he's difficult to project to the next level. He's not terribly quick off the line and gets by largely on his effort. He projects as a middle-round linebacker.
Pittsburgh junior running back Ray Graham is doing well for himself early this season, but he's undersized and doesn't have explosive speed. Also worth noting for Pittsburgh is middle linebacker Max Gruder, a likely special teamer in the NFL.
Thursday NFL Draft watch notes: Pittsburgh prospects and little else
Given their recruiting base, it’s somewhat surprising South Florida doesn’t have more NFL prospects on its roster.
There is plenty of intriguing surrounding junior running back
. A former blue chip recruit by Colorado, Scott is finally playing well this season. Coming into tonight’s game, he has 348 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 53 attempts. He has excellent size at 6-foot-1 and 248 pounds.
In the Houston/UTEP game, there are even fewer draft prospects to watch.
Houston senior quarterback
is playing well again, but has limited size and plays in a gimmicky offense. Still, he should latch on somewhere at the next level if his knee checks out fine.
