When Robert Griffin III started as a freshman at Baylor, he wasn't an NFL prospect at quarterback. He was a rail thin, run-first track star.
Baylor’s Robert Griffin begins charge on Heisman, NFL Draft
As he showed Friday night against TCU, Griffin has begun to develop into a legitimate NFL prospect at quarterback.
Griffin systematically picked apart what has been the nation’s top defense for three straight years, leading Baylor to a 50-48 win.
Although Griffin was much better in the first half than the second, he still completed 21 of 27 passes (77.8 percent) for 359 yards and 5 touchdowns passing. Also add in 38 yards rushing and 15 yards receiving and Griffin had Heisman Trophy pundits drooling.
It was the 15-yard reception in the fourth quarter that showed Griffin has the heart of a team leader as well. The junior told reporters after the game that he was hit so hard on the catch running back Terence Ganaway had to call the next couple plays.
The throws Griffin was completing weren’t just little dink and dunk spread offense passes, either. A 42-yard third-quarter pass down the left sideline is the kind of throw that makes scouts take notice.
With scouts from the Falcons, Bears, Browns, Packers, Texans, Colts, Chiefs, Dolphins, Vikings, Patriots, Raiders, Steelers, Seahawks, Rams and Titans in attendance, they most certainly did.
They probably also noticed senior wide receiver Kendall Wright. A large portion of Griffin's success can be attributed to Wright, who had 12 receptions for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns. He even completed two passes 55 yards and a score.
As mentioned in our game preview, Wright is a very good slot receiver. If he continues to play like this, he’ll force a team to use an early pick on him.
