Peyton Manning Will Not Have Another Neck Surgery, According To Report

Well, this story just changes constantly. After reports emerged on Sunday afternoon that Peyton Manning required further surgery on his neck, those reports were refuted by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, who said that Manning was being re-evaluated but no decision about a new procedure had been made. Now, a source has told Adam Schefter of ESPN that Manning will not have another surgery on his neck.

Whether or not Manning will be healthy in the immediate future remains to be seen, but he is not currently expected to start the Indianapolis Colts' season opener against the Houston Texans. The Colts are expected to hold a press conference around noon E.T. on Monday to address Manning's injury, the various rumors floating around, and his status for the season opener.

The team has stated in the past that if Manning is unable to play - which seems increasingly likely - the starting quarterback will be veteran Kerry Collins, not Curtis Painter.
