The news in the NFL today is that Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning will "likely be doubtful" for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans due to a neck injury. If Manning does indeed miss the first game of the season, it'll snap a streak of 208 consecutive games started for Manning.
Last QB Not Named Peyton Manning To Start For Colts Was Jim Harbaugh
Dating back to the start of the 1998 season, the only quarterback to start a game for the Colts has been Peyton Manning. Think about how ridiculously long that is. Tee Martin was winning the national championship at Tennessee that year. The Broncos were beating the Packers in the Super Bowl. The Titans were still the Oilers.
It’s been so long that the last quarterback to start a game for the Colts is now an NFL coach -- Jim Harbaugh!
It's hard to even fathom the Colts without Manning lining up to start the game but it appears that's what will happen next weekend when they play the Houston Texans. The Colts signed QB Kerry Collins this offseason and paid him $4 million which strongly suggests that he'll see some playing time this year.
We’ll see but it appears we’ll see someone lining up under center not named Peyton Manning for the first time since December 21, 1997. Hop on over to SB Nation’s Stampede Blue, which didn’t exist the last time someone other than Manning started a game for the Colts.
