Another Surgery For Peyton Manning Not Ruled Out, Reports Say

The Indianapolis Colts are facing reality this weekend as QB Peyton Manning won’t line up under center for the first time since the end of the 1997 season. The Colts made Manning the top pick in 1998 and he has started every game since he’s been in the NFL.

It’s already been confirmed that Manning will miss Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans but the remaining question is how many more he’ll miss. An Indy radio host reported that Manning had another surgery on his neck last weekend but Peter King of SI.com reports that he actually didn’t.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports joins the chorus reporting Manning didn’t have a surgery last week but did say it’s possible that surgery does ultimately happen, perhaps as soon as this weekend. Via Glazer’s chat on FOXSports.com:

While im told he hasn’t had surgery yet, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has it before the weekend starts. Not sure how long this will shelve him if in fact he has the surgery as I believe he will

Glazer also says that another surgery may not necessarily keep Manning out for the year.

We’ll see. If Manning can’t go at all, it’s hard to predict the Colts lighting the world on fire this year. QB Kerry Collins is a serviceable backup but he’s no Manning (but who is?).
