Report: Peyton Manning Had Neck Surgery Thursday; Out 2-3 Months

it's going to be a long season for the Indianapolis Colts. ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that Colts QB Peyton Manning had neck surgery on Thursday morning and his recovery time is expected to be in the range of 2-3 months. Per Mort, there's been no decision whether to place Manning on injured reserve ending his season.

Manning's health has been the topic of conversation in the NFL for the last week. Colts executive Bill Polian confirmed earlier this week that Manning has been ruled out for Week 1 against the Houston Texans, which ends his consecutive games started streak at 208.

Reports and rumors surfaced earlier this week that Manning could be having another surgery very soon and Mort’s report confirms that this surgery happened on Thursday morning.

With a 2-3 month recovery time, Manning wouldn’t be returning to the field until around November, at the earliest. That timeline suggests that placing Manning on IR is a very real possibility.

SB Nation’s Stampede Blue has been covering every inch of the Manning story so head on over there to see how the city of Indianapolis is taking the news.
