In Oklahoma State's 37-14 win over Arizona Thursday night, Cowboys wide receiver Justin Blackmon showed why he is so highly regarded.
Blackmon finished the game with a workman-like 12 receptions for 128 yards. He also had 2 touchdowns wonderfully placed short fades by quarterback Brandon Weeden. It was the second time in as many games that Blackmon has topped 125 yards receiving.
It wasn't merely his ability to catch the ball, however, that should earn Blackmon so much praise. Throughout the game he ran quick, crisp routes t get open just enough for Weeden to deliver. Unlike many other college receivers, Blackmon wasn't rounding out his routes when the play wasn't designed to go his way.
With all-around game, Justin Blackmon shows why he’s a top NFL Draft prospect
More impressive was Blackmon’s blocking acumen. He helped the Oklahoma State running game on a handful of runs to his side of the field. Blackmon was either washing his man outside to open a running lane or simply overpowering him backward t create space.
On Thursday night, Blackmon’s game was reminiscent to several that last year’s No. 6 overall pick,
, had for Alabama. If Blackmon keeps it up, he could easily find himself in a similar spot in the draft.
