James Justice topped anything you saw in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. The 5-foot-9 kid with a massive vertical obliterated the competition in New Orleans in a Final Four exhibition.
James Justice Shuts Down The Dunk Contest, Takes Title
James Justice won the NCAA Slam Dunk contest, and it really shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who watched him take flight. At 5-foot-9, Justice was the smallest guy in the field, but also the highest leaper. Boasting a vertical somewhere in the neighborhood of 52 inches -- no, really -- Justice put on a show, playing well above the rim for each of his slams.
For instance, this was one of his backup dunks, after he missed a first attempt.

In the quarterfinals of Thursday night’s dunk contest, Bryan Narcisse went with a tame, but nice, tribute, revealing a Larry Nance jersey and emulating a dunk. Here’s Jones missing the mark in slow-mo, after he misjudges his jump.

Probably the most awkward and awesome moment from the NCAA Slam Dunk Contest involved Jimmy Dykes, who hopped in to help out Kenny Gabriel. The dunk itself wasn’t too bad, but it was the celebration that stole the show. Dykes and Gabriel shared a flying chest bump, with the former ending up on the floor because of the latter.
Dykes doesn’t seem to have much in the way of ups. Got about six inches off the ground there. It’s the effort that counts, though.

The 2012 NBA Slam Dunk Contest was kind of lame. The college version of the slam dunk contest, which only lacks anyone you’ve ever heard of, is making up for it — with James Justice, specifically, leading the leapers.
Justice is a 5’10” (probably more like 5’8”) guard from Martin Methodist, and he has a 52-inch vertical leap. That enables him to do things like slip the surly bonds of Earth for long enough to throw down this massive dunk.
