Matt Kalil, NFL Draft 2012: USC Offensive Tackle With Impressive NFL Combine Workout

Former USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil had an impressive workout at the NFL Combine on Saturday and will certainly maintain his status as the top offensive line prospect in the 2012 NFL Draft. Kalil was one of only three offensive linemen to break the five second mark in the 40-yard dash. The tackle, who’s been adding bulk in the lead up to the draft, weighed in at a hefty 306 pounds but still managed to run the 40 in 4.99 seconds.

Kalil demonstrated not just speed but also strength, putting up 225 pounds on the bench press 30 times. Just a dozen of the offensive linemen tested so far have broken 30 on the bench press, with none coming close to Michigan’s David Molk, who lifted it 41 times.

In addition to weighing in at 306, Kaili was measured at 6’6 1/2 and with 34 1/2 inch arms. He performed the ten-yard split in just 1.70 seconds, an important measurement for offensive and defensive linemen. Kalil is projected to go in the top five, with many having the Rams or Vikings taking him in either the No. 2 or No. 3 spot. His workout today solidifies that top five status.
